The People’s Palace of Possibility

The People’s Palace of Possibility is an outdoor installation which asks how we find energy for the future, despite the fear and anger we feel today. It is about our desire to escape, and the urgent need to do something radically different. The Palace travels around the country and it’s always growing.

The Palace travels around the country and it’s always growing and is added to and animated by people wherever it goes. At Mowbray Gardens Community Library in Rotherham it will host live music, ‘craftivism’, potlucks and stories of resistance.

The People's Palace of Possibility is an outdoor installation, co-developed by CUSP researcher Dr Malaika Cunningham, and it's coming to Caithness this Summer. At Lyth Arts Centre it will host a disobedient choir, utopian illustrations, films, potlucks and ceilidhs.

Led by the The Bare Project—a theatre and interactive arts company in Sheffield, the People’s Palace os Possibility has been developed since May 2019. Following the successful installation at last year’s Future Fantastic Festival, and to make the most of lockdown restrictions, the project has been adapted now to a mail-art/digital chapter—for Sheffield, Doncaster and Deptford.

The People’s Palace of Possibility brings together social scientists with interactive arts company, The Bare Project. Participants become Palace Citizens and discover distant utopias, air fears, and take action to realise a better—or at least, less bleak—tomorrow. Part installation and part conversation, this is an uplifting and collaborative experience designed to question what is possible and how we might get there.
