Sustainable Policy and Practice for Early Stage Cleantech Financing
The UK Government faces the twin challenge of low productivity growth and the simultaneous need to address climate change. The solution to this dilemma is often accredited to green technology innovations.
This seminar will discuss how public policy may support and improve the level and quality of private impact investing that addresses climate change in order to deliver more effective environmentally sustainable outcomes for a UK low carbon economy.
The UK government has jointly competing objectives to raise small and medium-size enterprise (SME) productivity, whilst also achieving transition to a low carbon economy. We contribute to resolving this puzzle by showing how environmental impact can be measured effectively through a holistic impact measurement approach.
We do so by examining how to more effectively measure the environmental impacts of Cleantech innovation. The focus is on the activities of environmental impact investors and the impacts of their investments into SME Cleantech early stage innovation in the UK. This is achieved through analysis of a combination of secondary data, online surveys and in-depth case studies relating to Cleantech SMEs, their investors and environmental outcomes, alongside contextual insights from key informant policy and support providers.
