Building a net zero emissions economy: Next steps for government and business

London/Online, 5 October 2020, 12.00–13.30

Getting to a net zero emissions economy by 2050 represents a defining challenge for this government. Policy action in the early 2020s will be essential to grow private sector investment in low carbon technologies and services, strengthen the UK’s economic recovery and support efforts to tackle regional and social inequalities. Having a comprehensive delivery plan in place setting out key policy interventions for the rest of this parliamentary term will also strengthen the UK’s influence as host of the G7 and COP26 summits in 2021.

This event will launch the latest report with our co-investigators, the Aldersgate Group, Building a net zero emissions economy: Next steps for government and business, which sets out what a credible net zero delivery plan should look like and what businesses see as the most important policy interventions for this parliamentary term. Following an overview of the report and a political keynote, a multi-sector business panel will debate what they see as the most important policy priorities to put the UK on a path to net zero emissions and secure a sustainable economic recovery.
