Dr Ben Gallant

Ben Gallant is a post-doctoral researcher with CUSP working on the EU-funded WISE horizons project. His current research involves the application of economic models to explore two related research topics. Through the University of Surrey, Ben is exploring the relationship between productivity and sustainability by analysing inter-industry dynamics. Through the York University, Ben is exploring how different models of the welfare state can be made compatible with the transition to a sustainable economy. Ben is also part of a second Horizon Europe research project (MAPS), which is scheduled to begin in June 2024.

<>Ben recently submitted his PhD with CUSP (supervised by Tim Jackson and Simon Mair), which explored the dynamics of Baumol’s cost disease in a post-growth economy. This research involved the application of macroeconomic modelling techniques and statistical methods to understand how to manage cost inflation in an economy without growth.

Ben holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from King’s College London and an MSc in environmental strategy from the University of Surrey.
