Bianca has 15 years’ experience of researching social enterprise and completed an ESRC funded PhD on Older Social Entrepreneurs (in collaboration with UnLtd). She is currently involved in a UKRI-funded study on social enterprise as a catalyst for sustainable and healthy local food systems, and recently led studies on the role of community businesses in providing health and wellbeing services and ‘good work’ (both funded by Power to Change). Bianca also led a study, commissioned by AESOP (Arts Enterprise with a Social Purpose), to help develop and advance sustainable social enterprise models for its ‘Dance to Health’ programme which responds to the issue of older people’s falls.

Other recent projects include a mapping of social enterprise in the UK (funded by the European Commission), and a study on alternative social enterprise models for delivering health and social care public services (funded by Innovate UK).

Another key stream of Bianca’s work is related to equality, diversity and inclusion at work, with a particular focus on workplace support for expecting and new parents (funded by the ESRC, International Labour Organization, European Commission, WHO and UNICEF). She also leads the Middlesex University Gender & Diversity Research Cluster.

Work w/ CUSP

Bianca is part of the recently awarded Social enterprise as a catalyst for sustainable and healthy local food systems research team, led by Kate Burningham and Fergus Lyon, in which she applies her expertise on social enterprise business models and approaches to health and wellbeing, as well as equality and diversity at work.
